Bicycle Patrol

The Elko Police Department bicycle patrol is a specialized unit that consists of teams of two officers. The duties of the bicycle patrol are essentially the same as an officer in a patrol car, but include additional duties such as bicycle rodeos for children. The bicycle patrol is a voluntary program offered at the Elko Police Department and is very physically demanding. The bicycle patrol is not only a fun and exciting duty, but allows bike officers to have a more one on one contact with citizens.

The training consists of a  number of long rides and formation rides totaling over 150 miles. The training includes slow speed drills as well as obstacle negotiation, an obstacle course and firearms qualifications. The course is 40 hours and taught by certified instructors from the Elko Police Department and offered to agencies within Nevada as well as other states.
