The Elko Police Department Cadet program educates youths ages 15 1/2 to 20 in law enforcement careers. Cadets learn tactics, procedures, laws and other daily duties of the police officer. The volunteer program consists of weekly classes, ride-a-longs with officers, bike patrol ride-a-longs and special events security. The program prepares young adults for a career in law enforcement. The Elko Police Department's Reserve Police Officer Program has a rich tradition of community service.Reserve officers assist regular officers with normal patrol duties. Reserve officers are required to perform 16 hours of service each month and attend weekly training sessions. Reserve officers are taught P.O.S.T.
accredited classes and are encouraged to become certified. Reserve officers work under the supervision of full-time officers and have the same powers as sworn officers while on duty.
