The City of Elko is recruiting for current and future openings of entry level and/or experienced Police Officers.  This position is responsible for performing general duty law enforcement work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. 

 This position requires:  1) a High School Diploma (or G.E.D.); 2) a current valid driver’s license; 3) the physical strength and agility to perform the essential functions of the position; and 4) a background clear of felony convictions in this state or any offense which would be a felony if committed in this state, or any offense involving moral turpitude or unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance, or documented history of physical, or domestic violence.  Applicants must have U.S. citizenship and be twenty-one (21) years of age.  Successful candidates must be able to perform shift work and be able to obtain a Basic Peace Officers Standard Training Certificate (P.O.S.T.).  

 The selection process will consist of a physical agility exam (pass/fail), written examination, and panel interview.  Prior to appointment, successful candidates will be required to undergo comprehensive law enforcement background checks, voice stress analyzer tests, as well as post-offer medical/psychological examinations. 

 The current entry level salary is $4,416.10 per month, plus an excellent benefits package.  The current salary range for lateral transfers is $4,600.32 - $5,772.40 per month, plus an excellent benefits package.  Salary will be based on experience.

Payroll Technician (Confidential)

 This position performs and processes payroll operations for the City of Elko and complies with Federal, State, and City reporting requirements for payroll reporting; receives and reviews payroll records ensuring compliance with City policies, procedures, and regulations; enters payroll into system; processes, calculates, and posts a variety of payroll actions including wage garnishments, benefits withholding, and overtime hours; prepares, balances, and corrects payroll reports. Verifies time sheets including but not limited to: vacation time, sick time, holiday time, compensatory time, and leaves of absence; documents actions in payroll master files.

 Prepares payroll and all related payroll reports including quarterly reports, and W-2's; balances and prepares payroll taxes for quarterly and annual returns. 

Performs complex and technical accounting duties including reconciling receivables from the golf course, prepares financial reports, statements, and special financial analyses; and assists the public as required.

 This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus four (4) years of increasingly responsible payroll accounting experience; some lead supervisory experience is highly desirable.  Also required is the ability to type at a speed of 40 words per minute and enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance.  Microsoft Excel and experience with 10 key is preferred.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Captains, or Lieutenants, this position is responsible for fighting fires, responding to emergency medical/rescue situations, and participating in fire prevention activities. Duties will include, but will not be limited to: protecting life and property; operating and maintaining firefighting/rescue equipment; maintaining fire stations; providing EMT services, and performing related tasks as required.

 This position requires: 1) Residency within the city limits of Elko; 2) a valid State of Nevada Driver’s License; and 3) the physical strength and agility to perform the essential functions of the position. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

 Under immediate supervision of the Police Records Supervisor, this position performs responsible, specialized clerical and computer data entry work in the preparation and maintenance of sensitive and confidential police records and reports; this position is required to maintain and process misdemeanor warrants and to take walk-in and telephone priority III crime reports. 

The Records Tech I position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D., preferably supplemented by business school or college course work, plus one (1) year of responsible general clerical experience, and a valid State of Nevada Driver’s license.  This position also requires a working knowledge of computer systems, word processing and spreadsheet programs, and typical office equipment. 

The Records Tech II position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D., preferably supplemented by business school or college course work, plus three (3) years of experience working with records in a law enforcement environment.  This position also requires a working knowledge of computer systems, word processing and spreadsheet programs, and typical office equipment. 

The hourly pay rate for Records Technician I is $17.57 to $19.84.  The Records Technician II rate of pay is $19.59 to $22.14 plus an excellent benefits package.

Reporting to the Parks & Recreation Director, this position manages, directs, supervises, and coordinates recreation programs, services and activities; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies; coordinates all sports complexes and parks; oversees latchkey and summer recreation programs; selects, trains, and evaluates recreation staff; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Parks & Recreation Director.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university, with major course work in recreation or a related field. It also requires five (5) years of responsible recreation experience including three (3) years of management and supervisory experience. The successful applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain an appropriate CPR and first aid certification, and a Police Work Card, in addition to a valid Nevada driver’s license.

The current annual salary range for this position is $53,055 - $71,354, plus an excellent benefits package. Initial salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. Reporting to the Animal Shelter Manager, this position is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of the Animal Shelter.  Duties will include, but will not be limited to: impounding animals and maintaining related records; maintaining a clean, safe, and humane environment for all animals; assisting in the adoption and/or disposition of unclaimed animals; collecting fees and maintaining receipts; answering telephones and dealing with the public; and performing related work as required by the Animal Shelter Manager.  The successful candidate must have the ability to lift heavy objects, the ability to efficiently operate PC’s, modern office and computer equipment and software including Microsoft Office Suite, and Animal Shelter specific software; and the ability to communicate effectively and work in a spirit of cooperation with employees and the general public.  Ability to speak both English and Spanish is a plus.  To be considered for this position, applicants must have the ability to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts.

The Animal Shelter Worker I position requires a High School Diploma (or G.E.D.), a valid State of Nevada Driver’s license, possession of, or the ability to obtain within one year, the Euthanasia Certification recognized by the State of Nevada, and possession of or ability to obtain a CPR/First Aid Certificate. Kennel management and/or veterinary assistant experience desirable, but not required. 

 The Animal Shelter Worker II position requires a Veterinary Technician certificate, High School Diploma (or G.E.D.), a valid State of Nevada Driver’s license, possession of, or the ability to obtain within one year, the Euthanasia Certification recognized by the State of Nevada, and possession of or ability to obtain a CPR/First Aid Certificate.  Kennel management and/or veterinary assistant experience is required. 

The hourly pay range for Animal Shelter Worker I is $16.45 - $18.59; the hourly pay range for Animal Shelter Worker II is $22.95 - $25.92, plus an excellent benefits package.

GOLF COURSE LABORER

Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent, this full-time position is responsible for general maintenance of the golf course, all buildings located at the golf course, and all maintenance equipment. Duties will include, but will not be limited to: Operating power-mowers, push mowers, tractors, light trucks, skip loaders and other power equipment used in maintenance and development of golf course facility.  The employee will assist in the propagation of turf, and plants from seed and cuttings.  Digs trenches and lays pipe, repairs lines, hauls dirt and gravel, rakes and picks up litter; keeps all restrooms neat and clean; paints, stains, assists in construction of buildings, signs, benches and equipment.  Performs general maintenance on equipment, greasing, washing, and sharpening of mower blades.  Operates spray equipment in controlling plant pests and diseases.  Plants and irrigates new turf areas and landscape areas.

This position requires any combination of experience and training, which demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform this type of work. The hourly pay rate for this position is $16.45 to $18.59.
