Elko Parks & Recreation is presently seeking ski and snow boarding instructors/coaches for beginning and intermediate classes for the 2017/2018 Winter Sports Programs.  The successful candidate should have considerable knowledge of skiing and/or snowboarding programs; the ability to develop, coordinate, and direct instruction for children ages 6-16; and the ability to teach and supervise small groups of children.  This position is 3-5 hours per day, Saturdays, beginning January 6, 2018.  Pay is $25.00 per hour & a free season pass.  Call for more information - 775-777-7260.

Elko Parks & Recreation is presently seeking lift operators for the 2017-2018 SnoBowl season.  There will be training at the SnoBowl in December for all applicants.  Operators will be paid $12.00 per hour and free skiing when not operatoring the lifts.  Operators will work half days and ski half days.  You must be 16+ years of age and able to provide your own transportation.  SnoBowl is open Saturdays & Sundays & all Holidays.  Come join the most fun Elko has in the winter!  For more information or questions, please call Dawn at 934-8414 or Roche at 401-0881.

LANDFILL SCALE OPERATOR

Under general supervision of the Landfill Superintendent, this position is responsible for performing routine cash handling, accounting, and record keeping functions.  Duties will include, but will not be limited to: providing customer service for landfill customers; collecting landfill user fees; operating cash registers and computers; reconciling and balancing cash receipts; maintaining ledgers; inspecting incoming loads; answering telephones; and performing related work as required by the Landfill Superintendent.

This position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D., preferably supplemented by one year of full-time experience working in customer service, working with financial transactions, and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform this type of work.  This position also requires a current, valid Driver’s License and a working knowledge of cash handling procedures, computer systems, 10-key, and typical office equipment.

 The hourly pay rate for this position is $16.45 - $18.59, plus an excellent benefits package. 

 The applicants with the highest qualifications as determined by the screening process will be invited to one or more interviews, which may include written examinations, computer skills tests, or a combination of assessment exercises.

PARKS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I

Reporting to the Parks & Recreation Superintendent, this full-time position is responsible for general maintenance of the parks, all buildings located in the parks, and all maintenance equipment.  Duties will include, but will not be limited to:  Operating power-mowers, push mowers, tractors, light trucks, skip loaders and other power equipment used in maintenance and development of a park facility.  This position will assist in the propagation of turf and plants from seed and cuttings; dig trenches and lay pipe, repair lines, haul dirt and gravel, rake and pick up litter; keep all restrooms neat and clean; paint, stain, assist in construction of buildings, signs, benches and equipment.  This position performs general maintenance on equipment, greasing, washing, and sharpening of mower blades; operates spray equipment in controlling plant pests and diseases; and plants and irrigates new turf areas and landscape areas.

This position requires any combination of experience and training, which demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform this type of work.  Applicants must have sufficient formal education to be able to read and write in the English language and have the ability to follow instructions and do simple mathematical calculations.  A current valid driver’s license is also required.
