The Elko Parkways, Open Space, and Trails Sub-Committee is currently working on the Eight Mile Creek/Mittry Park area. Plans include a non-motorized shared use pathway and related improvements including crosswalks, curb ramps, and key sidewalk segments that will link residential neighborhoods to the pathway system. The project will also include a bike route for Ruby Vista Drive and Class 1 bike lanes for College Parkway and Golf Course Drive. The City has applied for a grant with the Nevada State Parks Department to assist with financing the improvements. A community clean-up of the area will be scheduled in the near future.
The scope of this project will include the Phase 2 design and construction of a shared use pathway and related features along the south side of the Humboldt River through the Humboldt Area River Project, a park and open space system owned and maintained by the City of Elko. The length of the pathway, approximately 1,300 feet, will fulfill a recreational need by developing a multiple use facility through existing park land and provide a transportation function by linking residential neighborhoods from 12th street on the east, to the 9th street pedestrian bridge, Southside Elementary School and Southside Neighborhood Park to the west. |
